freelogoOur objective is to provide English speaking readers interested in Hungary with a well balanced view of political activities in Hungary by featuring contents from various printed and online sources together with our own commentaries. We are convinced that Hungary is built on all sorts of different ideas, thoughts and opinions and, despite of the new Media Law, our aim is to provide an alternative and reliable source of information – contrary to the one-sided press of the government – for those who want to hear the voice of a free Hungary.

Gyurcsány Painted into Constitution? (The Revenge of the Painter)

The story Imre Kerényi’s series of historical paintings took a surprising turn. The enemy attacks from somewhere not even the flamboyant theatrical director would expect.
Iván Szkok faithfully did what he was asked to. His painting features a half-naked King Stephen, clad into the costume of King Arthur, nailing down with his sword what he’s got to nail down. There is also a peeping István Balsay (on the left, next to the soldier), and there is also (well, for some mysterious reason) Zoltán Kodály equipped with his camera. But, unfortunately, those responsible must have been careless at the handover.
To the left from the sword (from our perspective), albeit a bit blurred, Iván Szkok, indeed, painted the figure of the arch enemy, the devil incarnate, Ferenc Gyurcsány. Who else could that man be, with his so characteristic, slightly ginger-blond hairstyle, a grievous face, in a sacrificial posture, than the anti-hero of the police attack of 2006, as depicted in another painting?
That’s how the painter Mr. Szkok sent a flick to the sovereign and his entire entourage: he is the only one from the whole bunch of artists who has got some balls.
