freelogoOur objective is to provide English speaking readers interested in Hungary with a well balanced view of political activities in Hungary by featuring contents from various printed and online sources together with our own commentaries. We are convinced that Hungary is built on all sorts of different ideas, thoughts and opinions and, despite of the new Media Law, our aim is to provide an alternative and reliable source of information – contrary to the one-sided press of the government – for those who want to hear the voice of a free Hungary.

Fidesz is still the most popular political party

Fidesz has been the most popular party for 61 months. It is less popular than it was in 2010 (when it won the elections with a landslide victory and gained two-third majority in the parliament). The opposition could not win an elections without a broad coalition at the moment.
According to a recent survey published by Századvég Fidesz has a popularity of 41%, MSZP (Hungarian Socialist Party) 24%, Jobbik (far right party) 21%, LMP (green party) 8%. Democratic Coalition would get 3%, which is under the threshold (5%).
Tárki's research carried out in July shows similar results. Fidesz has 41%, while socialists have 25%, Democratic Coalition has 2% and Jólét és Szabadság (successor of MDF, former major right party, which won the first free elections after the transition in 1990) has only 1%.
Medián also highlights similar trends in politics. (Fidesz 38%, MSZP 27%, Jobbik 23%, LMP 8%, Democratic Coalition 3%)
According to Ipsos Fidesz's advantage is slightly weaker, since its popularity is 33%, while MSZP is 30%. Jobbik would get 22%, LMP 8%, Democratic Coalition 4% if the elections were held now.
The last time MSZP's popularity was higher than Fidesz's was in May 2006 under Ferenc Gyurcsány.
