freelogoOur objective is to provide English speaking readers interested in Hungary with a well balanced view of political activities in Hungary by featuring contents from various printed and online sources together with our own commentaries. We are convinced that Hungary is built on all sorts of different ideas, thoughts and opinions and, despite of the new Media Law, our aim is to provide an alternative and reliable source of information – contrary to the one-sided press of the government – for those who want to hear the voice of a free Hungary.

Exciting cultural evenings at Brody House

Two British expats behind Brody House began by slowly acquiring apartments in this late 19th century mansion. Now they own nearly all of them, and have created a remarkable place, a creative hideaway that bubbles with style — from the contemporary art on every wall to the salvaged furniture fixed up with care.

They’ve turned the old apartments into eight individually furnished guestrooms, revolving round a central courtyard.
The shabby-chic Tinei room features artwork by Moldovan artist, Alex Tinei. Each room is named after the artist whose works adorn the room, such as the Tinei Room featuring works by Alex Tinei, which has been the site of a few music videos, and the Claret room, named after artist Etienne Claret de Fleurieu rather than the wine. Beds have thick, comfortable mattresses and loads of pillows, and bathrooms are excellent. In some rooms the sinks and tubs (several of which are freestanding and one is a gold antique clawfoot tub) are part of the spacious bedrooms, while others are proper rooms of their own. As you’d expect, bathroom accessories made of salvaged items.
The heart of Brody House is the large third floor apartment which functions as a common area — complete with a dining room, staffed kitchen (which serves breakfast, lunch, and on request, dinner), small library, little bar (which functions on the honor system), plenty of original art, and cozy seating. Brody House is also a club which organizes events for its members ranging from cocktail sessions courtesy of a local mixologist, regular film screenings with actors and filmmakers, book launches and literary discussions, art exhibitions and “art tasting dinners”, music performances, and more. This Thursday Klára Bábel, the celebrated harp soloist is playing a section of French composers like Renié, Godefroid, Chopin, etc.
