LMP among five opposition parties pledging cooperation in local by-election

In a rare example of cooperation, five opposition parties teamed up to support an independent candidate for a local by-election in the village of Solymár, near Budapest, reports Index.hu.

The Socialist Party, the Democratic Coalition (DK), green LMP, Együtt (Together) and Párbeszéd (Dialogue) are all going to support independent candidate Zsuzsanna Kárpáti at a local by-election to take place on December 10 in Solymár's 6th constituency. The by-election was called because Fidesz-KDNP council member Gergely Gaal was appointed to take the parliamentary seat of György Rubovszky, who passed away in June. It may be difficult Zsuzsanna Kárpáti to get the council seat for all the widespread support, as Gaal got 61% of the votes in the local elections held in the autumn of 2014.
