DK received a letter from a desperate family member – Why is the State Department slow to take action?

Varju László, deputy leader of DK received a desperate letter. According to the letter, 9 Hungarian citizens, who are stranded in the Caribbean in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma did not receive any help from the State Department.

The letter was written by a family member of a victim. In the morning, Péter Szijjártó stated to the media that they asked for assistance from the Dutch Foreign Office. Now the Hungarian victims know that the reason why the Dutch Foreign Office did not help is that Hungary suspended diplomatic ties with the Netherlands last week. Therefore, the rescue of the Hungarians did not take place because of the confrontational attitude of Fidesz in foreign affairs.

At the moment, 9 Hungarian people without any food or other supplies are waiting on the Island of St. Martin for the State Department to take action.

The Democratic Coalition calls upon the Szijjártó-led Operetta-style Foreign Office to repatriate the Hungarian people without delay. This is a painful lesson for the government regarding why people usually do not overturn the table in matters of diplomacy.
