Government party politicians hardly speak any foreign languages

According to the Hungarian government from 2020 an intermediate level language exam will be demanded from pupils wanting to apply for higher education. The online news site wrote that the same Fidesz and KDNP members of Parliament are those who hardly speak foreign languages. Only 29 per cent of all ruling Fidesz members and 35 per cent of junior governing party KDNP members of parliament dispose of an intermediate level language exam.

The same indicator among socialists reaches 43 per cent, DK 50 per cent, Jobbik 54, LMP 80 and independent members of parliament 86 per cent. Neither Prime Minister Viktor Orbán nor DK party head Ferenc Gyurcsány own an intermediate level language certificate but both speak English fluently. DK member of parliament Ágnes Vadai owns the highest number of language exams. She has an advance level Spanish and English language exam, and an intermediate level Norwegian, Russian and French certificate. Co-head of Párbeszéd party Tímea Szabó speaks Farsi and the socialist István Hiller speaks Latin at an advanced level.
