Our objective is to provide English speaking readers interested in Hungary with a well balanced view of political activities in Hungary by featuring contents from various printed and online sources together with our own commentaries. We are convinced that Hungary is built on all sorts of different ideas, thoughts and opinions and, despite of the new Media Law, our aim is to provide an alternative and reliable source of information – contrary to the one-sided press of the government – for those who want to hear the voice of a free Hungary.

Pécs Universtiy (PTE), which awarded the degree, cannot give a final ruling on whether or not Gyurcsány plagiarised it because the dissertation has gone missing, the PTE head said on Tuesday. In the absence of the dissertation itself, written by the former Socialist prime minister in 1984, the university’s investigative committee cannot issue a definitive ruling with legal force, he said.
The Democratic Coalition vowed to sue anyone who from now on repeated the plagiarism claim.
“On the basis of official documents, the charge of plagiarism cannot be substantiated,” Ágnes Vadai, a DK board member, told a news conference today. “Anyone who in the future claims, suspects or implies that plagiarism took place will have to answer to a court of law and will pay damages,” she said.
Earlier in the month, Fidesz spokeswoman Gabriella Selmeczi called on Gyurcsány to clear himself once and for all of the charge that he copied his graduation dissertation.
“When will he notice that he is by now pathetic and everyone is laughing at him, including his one-time left-wing comrades?” she wrote.
Last weekend, the DK said in a statement to MTI that Gyurcsány would sue HirTV, the pro-government television news channel which investigated the case. Read more: http://www.freehungary.hu/component/content/article/1-friss-hirek/944-the-fidesz-connection-in-the-thesis-case.html
