Many things can happen in the history of a country. For example the most important political positions are filled by three former college roommates, fellow football team members, or their closest relatives. The decision is a question of intellect and, most of all, style. No such thing can happen where there is style; and it can where there isn’t any. Political style disappeared in Hungary long ago, so things like those can happen. It cannot be excluded that János Áder will make an excellent president because Pál Schmitt has already done all the dirty work. He assisted to the abolishment of checks and balances, helped to build the authoritarian regime and discredited himself. The situation could not be much worse. Áder will truly consolidate.
