The statement "Only the damned Jews claim that I'm anti-semitic." characterises the direction of Hungarian political public life.
It is a day to day experience that non racist people tend to blame Jews for everything. The online forums are the best places to measure this attitude. Otherwise it is true that some Fidesz leaders are their tutors in this field. That is why there are more and more Jew hater non anti-semitic people. It is like not having diarrhoea but sitting on the closet all day. Meanwhile people ought to have Albert Wass, József Nyírő, Cecile Tormay in their mind. (All three were authors in the 20th century with controversial legacies because of their political ties with the far right. All of them are taken up by the current government.)
I looked up 'Jew' in Lajos Nagy's Képtelen természetrajz (A sort of a documentary book first published in 1921.) The following is in the 'Jew' article: 'As it was proved by Jewish Darwin Jews stem from monkeys. This is the reason why they ape Christians all the time and they deceive moral people. Jews can be found everywhere. They are either free, live outback on the streets and in cafes, or they are tamed. The latter means having them in camps. Jews have a high densitiy in Hungary, therefore they like the local climate. Jews feed upon beans, goose and radish. This proves their noxious aspect since they misappropriate food from people.'
Jews have no virtue: if they cure or teach, they do it for money. if they do it for free of charge, they do it to enhance their prestige. Jews have sins only. They can be blamed for the World Wars, for Bolshevik revolution and for Spanish flue. Actually, Spanish flue should be called Jewish flue. The Jews who died of Spanish flue just imitated Christians since they were not able to resist their monkey temperament.
There is a saying: 'the Israelites are the wonderful people who lend money and the Jews the are bastards who claim the money back'.
There are not only Jewish people, but Jewish animals such as peacocks. According to science the peacock can be described as an oppressor. Italians have an old phrase: 'the peacock has a beautiful feather, diabolic voice and thug steps'.
I think it even has a curved beak. We should ask László Kövér's practised opinion. (Kövér is Speaker of the Parliament and he has been involved in recent debates over Nyírő's literary legacy)
