Who can claim now that Pál Schmitt is Orbán Viktor’s puppet? Since, as it came to light recently, the former president of Hungary filed a complaint application to the Semmelweis University in April, and in May he turned to the Metropolitan Court of Budapest in order to regain his doctoral title. The official procedure is in progress, a decision will be definitely made in time.
It is a more difficult question to decide whether Pál Schmitt should from now on be considered as a righteous man. After all a righteous man does not use a title for which he did not do anything. If he had not used it day-and-night he could have signed more unconstitutional laws to the end of his mandate. Now only the never-ending fight for the allowances remains.
The question is not only the moral quality of Schmitt but also how could Orbán consider a person like him worthy of such a position. Due to the complaint application of Schmitt the leaders of Fidesz can relive the shame and the outcry of the nation. If this was the double Olympic champion’s aim he has succeeded.
