Our objective is to provide English speaking readers interested in Hungary with a well balanced view of political activities in Hungary by featuring contents from various printed and online sources together with our own commentaries. We are convinced that Hungary is built on all sorts of different ideas, thoughts and opinions and, despite of the new Media Law, our aim is to provide an alternative and reliable source of information – contrary to the one-sided press of the government – for those who want to hear the voice of a free Hungary.

The wounded Gyurcsány

It is likely that Hír TV went after Gyurcsány’s college thesis as it thought there must be some discrepancies or wrongdoings there. Then their hypothesis became reality as the ex prime minister is basically not invulnerable and it makes sense to pick up on topical issues in relation to him even if they look strained.
For instance the state president’s plagiarised doctoral thesis may be put against a teacher’s training college thesis as that won’t be ok either.
Or at least one can find something to criticise in it. The correspondence in the title might normally only raise the suspicion of plagiarism, but in this case it is proof enough. If the team of Hír TV reached their conclusions in advance of the expected result and it is not Gyurcsány’s own personality that is their driving power then the situation is not much different either, at least it is awkward from two perspectives.
Now it would be easy to say that a person in politics to be credible must be immaculate. Well nobody is immaculate.
For instance the Italians did not care about the fact that things were a mess around Berlusconi yet he managed to resolve everything in his way. Unfortunately in our land the decisive force is political rather than moral. Schmitt would not have failed so badly if it would not have been clear all along that all that he did made him a perfectly unsuitable president of state. The thesis and the answers provided for the allegations will be a “life threat” to Gyurcsány only in a sense that he already lost a whole war on credibility. He may get and manage the punches on all other fronts, but not on this one (credibility).
