MEP János Áder told Origo on Tuesday that any question of his nomination is premature, even that Hungarian left-wing daily Népszabadság has learnt from a reliable source that Áder is the most likely candidate for the post. An unidentified source close to Orbán said the prime minister would prefer Speaker László Kövér as head of state. Pro-government daily Magyar Hírlap reported that Áder could accept the nomination, but has not yet given final answer.
Other potential nominees – as FreeHungary reported last week (http://www.freehungary.hu/component/content/article/1-friss-hirek/882-who-will-be-the-next-president.html) are National Resources Minister Miklós Réthelyi, former prime minister Péter Boross, deputy Speaker Sándor Lezsák, Academy of Sciences president József Pálinkás, former Academy president Szilveszter E. Vizy and ambassador to the US György Szapáry.
