It all started with the announcement of János Székely. When studying "hatred" against Hungary, the bishop came to the conclusion that the reasons for recent attacks are that "our nation stands firm on such basic human values that many want to destroy these days". From his reasoning it seems that powers opposing us just simply cannot digest the simple fact that the wording of our new constitution starts with the name of God, or the fact that the government wish to protect the institution of marriage.
Új Ember (New Human), the semi-official weekly of the Catholic church is a publication edited with the greatest care. It can be seen as a signal that bishop Székely's words protecting the government appeared on the very first page of the journal.
As if the floodgates were opened. In the following issue of Új Ember the archbishop of Kalocsa-Kecskemét, Balázs Bábel, praised the peace march held in support of the government, and noted that by joining the European Union we did not choose the good but instead we chose the least bad. "Now our masters want us to make obedient not by having an army here but by using the power of money" – stressed the archbishop. Anyway the European Union is agonizing – says Balázs Bábel – "all it can do is imposing radical liberalism as obligatory instead of real values". This is the situation in which the Hungarian prime minister has to fight his corner – writes the archbishop – "who is most certainly helped by the power of faith". It seems that the "Holy Ghost has granted him the power to protect our nation with discipline and a sense of humour".
