MEP Swoboda: Orbán should no longer be vice head of the European Peoples Party
The Group of Socialists in the European Parliament is going to claim for a report by the European Commission on the planned arrangements against the Hungarian government led by Prime Minister (PM) Viktor Orbán. According to the Austrian Member of European Parliament (MEP) Hannes Swoboda, vice-head of the group in the EP called the Progressive Alliance of Socialist and Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D) PM Viktor Orbán should be taken the position as the vice-president of the European Peoples Party (EPP) away. He finally added that the membership of Fidesz in the EPP in the European Parliament should be suspended, too.
Not even the EPP identifies itself with Fidesz
According to the Hungarian Socialist Member of European Parliament (MEP) Csaba Tabajdi the European Peoples Party (EPP) does not identify itself with PM Viktor Orbán’s government party, with Fidesz any longer. MEP Tabajdi underlined that it was a quite alarming sign to Fidesz that even the EPP which one the Hungarian government party still belongs to in the European Parliament, clearly supports the inspections of the European Commission against Hungary. MEP Tabajdi confirmed his statement with the declarations by MEP Wilfried Martens, president of the EPP and Joseph Daul, head of the Group of the EPP. MEP Tabajdi, head of the Hungarian socialists in the European Parliament finally added that this was a sign that even to the EPP the protection of fundamental European values is worth more than party solidarity. MEP Tabajdi called the Hungarian government to cooperate with the European Commission and to change the strongly criticized Hungarian laws and bills. MEP Tabajdi also said that PM Viktor Orbán should choose, whether he would prefer to prevent his own pride or finally he decided to stand up for the Hungarian national interests.
