The Democratic Coalition is the only power in the Parliament which is not for a new system and which is not seeking a new transition. It wants to turn Hungary into a more humane and more social country. Democratic Coalition does not want to replace the Hungary that was established in 1989.Gyurcsány stated in an interview in InfoRádio the citizens and the politicians need to get sober. He added that the Democratic Coalition stands on the truth of Öszöd. (Öszöd is a case from 2006 which fundamentally changed the Hungarian political life. Then Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány’s private speech was leaked to the media. He said the country should face the real situation. The speech provoked riots in Budapest in 2006.)There have been 5000 application sent to Democratic Coalition and 1200-1500 have been approved.
Gyurcsány could not specify how many of the applicants come from the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP). (Democratic Coalition used to be a platform within MSZP and it became independent this fall.) The country needs get sober as well. We have to realize the fact that everyone needs to take more responsibility in order to progress and to achieve our goals. Gyurcsány highlighted that this admission is painfully missing from the Hungarian political arena. People feel the need for this. Gyurcsány said that Democratic Coalition keeps itself far from populism and radical theories.Gyurcsány expects that the popularity of his party, the Democratic Coalition, will be over the parliamentary threshold (5%) by next spring. Beside a stable popularity he does not reckon to get the majority in 2014. There is group of people, approximately 20-30% of the voters who look for a centric party which focuses on democratic principles and solidarity as well. Gyurcsány explained the country would be like this in 10-20 years, as Hungary does not have any other choice.Gyurcsány said in the interview he would be satisfied if Democratic Coalition gets into the Parliament in 2014 as a stable middle size party. Democratic Coalition is open for co-operation on the democratic opposition’s side in order to establish a new civic government. Source: nol.hu
