The failure of the right-liberal Slovak government earlier this week provides one important lesson. There was a multi party consolidation of power against Fico, a national populist mutation. It was a rather colourful association, which knew one thing for sure: what (who) they didn’t want. This proved enough to form a government, but little to actually govern. After little more than one year of tumbling they finally failed at the first serious European test. Now, of course, it is Fico who has the biggest chance to win the round of early elections. In order to shed some light on the parallels here: per the current state it would take a big or at least a multi coloured coalition to fire Orbán, but if there is no alternative for the „what to do”, only for the „what not to do”, then there will be swift return to power with ever stronger ego and revenge, as we can experience it day by day.
