Our objective is to provide English speaking readers interested in Hungary with a well balanced view of political activities in Hungary by featuring contents from various printed and online sources together with our own commentaries. We are convinced that Hungary is built on all sorts of different ideas, thoughts and opinions and, despite of the new Media Law, our aim is to provide an alternative and reliable source of information – contrary to the one-sided press of the government – for those who want to hear the voice of a free Hungary.

Police officers, firefighters, customs officers and civil defense workers (about 15,000 strong) held a protest together on Saturday. At the sound of the name “Viktor Orbán”, the participants began to whistle and boo loudly, shouting – amongst others – “That’s not what you promised!” and “You’ve become a traitor!”
According to the information reported by the independent news portal FÜHÜ (Független Hírügynökség), György Bakondi, head of the Hungarian Directorate General of Civil Defense (Országos Katasztrófavédelmi Főigazgatóság; OKF) ordered that officers in every fire department would have to check whether fire proximity suits used in missions were in the right place or not, adding that any lack of equipment would be recorded and those who failed to fulfill the obligation would face disciplinary proceedings.
Gábor Fodor, one of the founding fathers of Fidesz and former president of the Hungarian liberal party SZDSZ (Alliance of Free Democrats), addressed an open letter to Viktor Orbán at the weekend, in which he called on the PM to stop the ratification process of the new constitution and urged him to order a referendum on it. Green opposition party LMP also organized a protest with thousands of participants on Sunday.
