Mária Wittner should resign and leave public life immediately, as she called former prime minister Gyula Horn an executioner, said the statement of the Socialist Party (MSZP). Wittner called Horn an executioner, then she added: „He has been languishig in the hospital for three years now, because he is unable to die.” According to the chairman of the socialists, these sentences sound the voice of hatred and are devoid of all human feelings. Wittner also slandered László Toller, the former mayor of Pécs, who succumbed to his injuries sustained in a car accident and after being comatose for three years. The government MP told borsonline.hu: „He couldn’t die because he made a king out of the fool.” The second part of the sentence refers to Ferenc Gyurcsány. In a statement, the local branch of MSZP called upon Wittner to apologise to the family of the deceased mayor and then leave public life. Socialists from Baranya county wanted to know what gave Wittner the right to slander Toller, a highly successful mayor until his death, who won four consecutive local elections. Is this a behaviour to be followed in Hungary? „We disagree with Mária Wittner.” That was all the ruling Fidesz party had to say about the incident.
