Our objective is to provide English speaking readers interested in Hungary with a well balanced view of political activities in Hungary by featuring contents from various printed and online sources together with our own commentaries. We are convinced that Hungary is built on all sorts of different ideas, thoughts and opinions and, despite of the new Media Law, our aim is to provide an alternative and reliable source of information – contrary to the one-sided press of the government – for those who want to hear the voice of a free Hungary.

Thursday 31 May 2012. - My birthday

Anikó cooked me a special Hungarian breakfast for my birthday. I washed it down with a glass of pálinka. The pálinka is necessary to dissolve all the cholesterol.

When I sat down to read the newspapers, I noticed that some of the articles had been cut out. I asked Anikó about this. She became nervous and told me that perhaps our daughter Rózsika had cut them out for a school project. I knew she was lying. What was she keeping from me?

I had another glass of pálinka. It was a really good. I made it while I was leader of the opposition. It was illegal to make pálinka in those days. The last government had no respect for age old Hungarian traditions!

After a couple of pálinkas, I started to worry about what was in those missing newspaper articles. Perhaps the party are plotting to push me out.

Later I had to make a speech at a conference organized for senior members of the party and business leaders, to celebrate the mid-point of our term. I looked around the room at the party members, and wandered who was the Judas among them. During my speech I warned that I know there are people plotting to get rid of me.

Then I realized that perhaps I should not have let them know that I know, so I changed tack and said that, I meant the European Commission were out to replace me, like they had replaced the democratically elected governments of Greece and Italy.

While on the topic of Europe, I boasted about our negotiating technique. The E.U. asks us to change 10 things. So we agree to change the 6 things we were going to change anyway, but say we can't change the other 4. They always think that, is a fair compromise.

A good party this evening. I have many rich friends now that I am Prime Minister. They were always my friends, but they weren't always rich!

Friday 1 June 2012

Today I found the missing newspaper article that Anikó had been hiding from me. A new opinion poll has shown that our support has fallen even lower and we now have the same support as the socialist party MSzP. My own popularity is lower than it has ever been. It seems that I am not much more popular than Mátyás Rákosi, the hated communist hardliner who died in exile. Not surprising that Anikó did not want me to see it.

Not that I care about opinions. The oligarchs will buy the next election for me.

Saturday 2 June 2012

The IMF and the European Central Bank have played into our hands. They announced yesterday that the changes that we have made to our central bank law, which is due to go before Parliament on Monday, are not sufficient.

Great! That has delayed the start of the negotiations for the IMF line of credit that we don't want. We are only playing along with the plan because the forint will tank if we admit that we have no intention of reaching any agreement with them. In the meantime we are looking for alternative lenders, and hoping that our friends in the East will help. Talking of friends, I must call Mr Assad in Syria.

More bad news! Another opinion poll suggests that more Hungarians are fleeing the country than at any time since 1956! Apparently nearly 50% of young people between 19 and 30 would like to move abroad. It makes me so angry We spend all our energy freeing our country from foreign imperialist capitalism, and rebuilding Hungary, and then all our children leave to go and live abroad. We should confiscate their passports at Ferihegy!! (I mean Liszt Ferenc airport).
